Finally, we have the confirmed set of specifications for the R5 Mark II camera from Jan Wagener. Take a look at the set of specifications we have:
Canon R5 Mark II Camera Specification
- The Canon R5 Mark II camera uses a 45-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor.
- The sensor readout speed of the Canon R5 Mark II camera is even faster than the sensor readout speed of the Canon R3, which uses a 24-megapixel stacked BSI CMOS sensor.
- RAW pre-burst + Customizable feature is available to the Canon R5 Mark II camera, and you can record your raw files depending on the time length you have selected – one, two, or three seconds earlier before you press the shutter.
- The maximum shooting speed of the Canon R5 Mark II camera without a rolling shutter effect at maximum speed is 30 frames per second in still mode.
- You will have both options of electronic and mechanical shutter, and with the advantage of having a mechanical shutter, it will protect your sensor when you want to change your lens while shooting in a wild or dusty environment.
- Uninterrupted 8K video recording without any overheating. Canon engineers added the best possible heat sink mechanism in the Canon R5 Mark II camera, which will allow you to shoot uninterrupted 8K videos as well as 4K 60 FPS and 120 FPS videos at maximum stretch without overheating like the Canon R5 camera.
- By adding some design changes of the R6 Mark II camera, the overall look of the Canon R5 Mark II camera remains very similar to its predecessor, the Canon R5.
It’s a really big surprise that the existing Canon R3 24 MP stacked BSI CMOS sensor, paired up with the latest Digic X image processor, is slower than the Canon 45-megapixel sensor. This indicates that Canon may use a Digic accelerator or something similar, being used the the Canon R1. Who knows, but yes, I am excited to say that we will face no more rolling shutter effects in Canon’s highest-resolution sensor.

According to the latest rumors surfacing over the web, it’s now confirmed that Canon will have a development announcement for the Canon R1 camera tomorrow.
Earlier, it was said that a Canon R5 Mark II camera is coming. Still, until now we do not have any information related to tomorrow’s R5 Mark II camera announcement. However, we know that Canon registered 5 different cameras including three mirrorless and two cinema cameras to be announced in 2024. So keep in mind, that the development announcement of R1 is just the start of announcements, and later on, we will have multiple more announcements from Canon.

Canon added a new teaser for the May 15 Announcement, although it’s very clearly visible they are not putting serious effort into the teaser, so it doesn’t look like an R5 Mk II or R1 development announcement for a moment, well let’s hope for the best.
Canon USA – Exciting news is on the horizon. Please look forward to the announcement from Canon next week.

In the teaser image, a child is holding a camera, but only a portion of the camera’s grip is visible, and the printing on the front of the lens has been erased, so we can’t see any details. Is that an XF series video camera in the background? It will be interesting to see if the rumored EOS R5 Mark II or another full-size model will be released.

According to the latest set of rumors we have received from ordinary filmmakers, there is a high probability that we may see a Canon R6 Mark III camera very soon. According to his sources, he is almost certain that there will be two new announcements in the month of May 2024. One of the announcements is the Canon R5 Mark II and the other camera is different from the Canon R1. What he expects at this moment is the successor to the Canon R6 Mark 2, the Canon R6 Mark 3.
$500 Discount on Canon R6 Mark II Body
Canon R5 B&H Store – The biggest thing that supports this particular rumor is the recent deep discount on the Canon R6 Mark II camera body. You can notice we have a $500 huge discount on the Canon R6 Mark II camera. It looks like Canon is trying to clear up the stock lines or they are making the entire market competition very tough for others if they are not clearing up the stock.
Canon Clearing up the STOCK LINES of Canon R6 Mark II Camera? With such a deep discount on the Canon R6 Mark II camera body, worldwide its looks like Canon is clearing up the stock lines of the Canon R6 Mark II Camera.
BG-R10 Canon R6 Mark II Battery Grip Discontinued by Canon
Canon has discontinued the battery grip BG-R10 for the EOS R5, EOS R6, and EOS R6 Mark II. Canon has reportedly discontinued the BG-R10 battery grip that is compatible with the EOS R5, EOS R6, and EOS R6 Mark II
suppose we combine all the events like having deep discount over the body and discontinuation of the better grip, along with the recent set of rumors we have. In that case, we will have an update on the Canon R6 Mark II Camera soon.

Now we have one more registered Canon camera as we reported a few days ago, and that creates a huge possibility for the replacement of the Canon R7 or R10 as we have discussed in the earlier post too, take a look at the details of Canon registered cameras first
List of Canon Upcoming Cameras
- ID174 registered on April 19, 2024, with Dual-band Wi-Fi 5. [Cinema Camera]
- ID179 registered on February 4, 2024, with Dual-band Wi-Fi 5. [Cinema Camera]
- DS126922 registered on February 4, 2024, with Dual-band Wi-Fi 6& Bluetooth. [Mirrorless Camera]
- DS126928 registered on March 29, 2024, with Dual-band Wi-Fi 6& Bluetooth. [Mirrorless Camera]
- DS126904 registered on April 26, 2024, with Dual-band Wi-Fi 5& Bluetooth. [Mirrorless Camera]
Most of the existing APS-C sensor-based cameras, as well as full-frame sensor-based cameras, are up to date and the Canon R5 Mark II and Canon R1 are coming, as well as the Canon R5C Mark II. So after these full-frame Mirrorless cameras, we can expect Canon to Focus on the APS-C range, where the entry-level Zone is already updated, and the oldest two APS-C Mirrorless cameras in Canon lineup waiting to get an update is the Canon R7 Mark II and Canon 10 MK II or Canon R9
Canon Camera Announcement Dates
Canon R3 Mark – September 13, 2021 [R3 is a flagship-level camera Canon will take 4+ years to update this model ]
Canon R5C Mark – 19 Jan 2022
Canon R6 Mark II – 2nd November 2022
Canon R5 – 09 July 2020
Canon R8 – April 18, 2023
Canon R7 – 24 May 2022
Canon R10 – 24 May 2022
Canon R50 – February 7, 2023
Canon R100 – 24 May 2023
Why are we talking about the Canon R7 Mark II right now?
The Canon R100 camera and Canon R50 are the most updated in the entry-level range. Yes, but there is a chance that we may see an update of the Canon R10 camera in August or September of 2024. And similarly, we have a flagship APS-C camera, the Canon R7. The Canon R7 is completely outdated now; it uses the Canon 90D’s DSLR sensor, and the readout speed of that particular sensor is 29.2 milliseconds, which is way worse than the existing sensors or competitors around the camera.
So there is a very high probability that we will see a Canon R7 Mark II camera shortly with an updated 32-megapixel sensor, a DIGIC X image processor, and the ability to record 6K open gate videos and continuous shooting speed up to 40 frames per second in Craw mode.
The other thing we expect is a true successor of the Canon 90D camera, the Canon R9. Since the transition from DSLR to mirrorless, we have a successor to every camera in the mirrorless range, specifically in the APS-C zone, but the 90D successor hasn’t arrived yet. So the Canon R9 can be selected to be the spiritual successor or the mirrorless successor of the highly popular Canon 90D camera.
List of Canon DSLR Cameras with its Mirrorless Successor
Canon 7D – Canon R7
Canon 90D – Canon R9 [Expected]
Canon 850D – Canon R10
Canon 200D Mark II – Canon R50
Canon 1500D – Canon R100
Why is the release of the Canon R9 imminent?
Canon has two options now either to update the Canon R10 Mark II camera with a 32MP Sensor of Canon R7, but even if they do so it will not properly fill the place of the Canon 90D camera, since the Canon 90D was a professional weather-sealed body with Dual cards slots.
There should be a Canon R9 to complete the incomplete Canon RF Mount APS-C Mirrorless lineup.
Stay tuned for more updates
