Well, we have a new twist from Canon: they have officially registered a new camera with the wireless certification agency. The date of registration was July 1, and the camera uses a Wi-Fi 5 module, which falls in the mid-range of Canon camera lineups, not the flagship line, which uses Wi-Fi 6, like the Canon R3, Canon R5 Mark II, or Canon R1. All three of these cameras use Wi-Fi 6, so we are sure that this doesn’t belong to the premium camera lineup since it uses Wi-Fi 5.
But again, if we look at the previous two listings that we have already discussed in our article, which was published a few days ago here at TheNewCamera.com, those two registrations showed that the registered cameras were using Wi-Fi 4 modules. That clearly indicated they were entry-level cameras and did not belong to the mid-tier category. Based on earlier registration details we are highly confident about the arrival of Canon R10 Mark II and one more entry-level camera, which may include a refreshed PowerShot series camera.
So, Lets talk about the latest update and the registration of this third camera, which uses Wi-Fi 5, has changed the entire thought process. Even Canon Rumors and veteran websites that were saying the Canon R7 Mark II had been delayed and was not coming in 2026. But now have to change that perception. Since we now have a camera registered with the wireless certification agency that uses a Wi-Fi 5 module, it could very well be the:
- Canon R7 Mark II
- Canon R8 Mark II
Take a look at the list of registered cameras here
The Three Mystery Canon Cameras
| Device ID | Registration Date | Wireless Highlights | Most Likely Models |
| DS126947 | April 15 | Dual-band Wi-Fi | R10 Mark II |
| DS126973 | June 2 | Dual-band, basic config | R10 / R50 Mark II |
| DS126965 | July 1 | 80 MHz bandwidth + 256QAM | R7 Mark II or R8 Mark II |

The newest registration (DS126965) has stronger wireless capabilities, making it a realistic candidate for a more advanced model like the R7 Mark II or an updated R8 Mark II.
The Twist in Canon’s 2026 Plans
Earlier, we expected mainly an entry-level refresh (R10 Mark II) with the R7 II pushed further out. These three registrations in quick succession suggest Canon may be preparing multiple new RF bodies for 2026, not just one.
This could mean:
- The R10 Mark II (as previously expected)
- A performance upgrade in the form of the R7 Mark II
- Or an updated full-frame entry model like the R8 Mark II
As we have discussed before, the Earlier two registrations from Canon strongly suggested that none of those cameras had Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 inside them. If the camera body has an entry-level Wi-Fi module, then how can we expect the arrival of the Canon R7 Mark II in the next 6 to 8 months?
Now we have hope, and with the registration of a camera body with a Wi-Fi 5 module, there is a very high probability that the Canon R7 Mark II is on the announcement path, since it is the most overdue camera in the Canon APS-C lineup after the Canon R10 Mark II.
Other than that, if Canon puts priority on market demand, then obviously we may have a dedicated video camera body for influencers and professional content creators, which is the Canon R8V or maybe the Canon R8 Mk II.
Both of these cameras, the Canon R7 Mark II and the Canon R8 Update, have an equal chance of arrival.
We will be updating this article as soon as we get more information related to these upcoming cameras from highly authentic sources.
What This Means for US Buyers
A broader 2026 lineup would be great news. The R7 Mark II would appeal to wildlife and sports photographers, while the R10 Mark II would remain a strong, affordable APS-C option.
We will keep tracking every new development, FCC filing, or official announcement from Canon USA. The second half of 2026 could turn out to be bigger than we first anticipated.
