The Strongest confirmation we have seen yet is that Nikon is preparing a new body with internal ProRes and ProRes RAW recording.
What Exactly Appeared on Apple’s Page?
The Apple support page (updated around mid-July 2026) now includes:
- Nikon Z6III
- Nikon Z70
- Nikon Z8
- Nikon Z9
- Nikon ZR
What does it mean that Z70 camera name appeared in Apple Support page?
The Z70 is listed under both standard ProRes and ProRes RAW. Cameras that only offer external HDMI RAW output (such as the older Z6/Z7 series after the paid upgrade) are not typically presented this way. But the Nikon Z70 is coming with something extra. While the entry has since been removed, its temporary presence remains one of the strongest public signals so far that the Z70 is planned with internal ProRes and ProRes RAW recording
What This Likely Means for Video Capabilities
Some obvious capabilities that will the upcoming Nikon APC fllagship camera will have
- 12-bit ProRes RAW recording (likely up to 4K or higher, depending on sensor readout)
- Standard ProRes 422 HQ options
- Proxy recording (as seen on Z8/Z9/ZR)
- High bit-rate internal recording that benefits from fast media
Expected Specs Based on Current Rumors
While nothing is officially confirmed beyond the Apple listing, the Z70 is widely expected to be Nikon’s long-rumoured high-end DX (APS-C) body — essentially a modern spiritual successor to the D500.
- Sensor: Nikon is heavily testing a 26MP APS-DX Format Body. As usual, a camera maker tests multiple prototypes of the product before they announce the final version. Higher resolution than the long-standing 20.9 MP DX sensor used in the Z50 / Z50II / Zfc / Z30 series.
- In-body image stabilization (IBIS): Strongly expected. Current DX bodies lack IBIS. Nikon already released the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR, a constant-aperture standard zoom with optical VR. Coordinated/synchro VR would make perfect sense on a new high-end DX body.
- Dual Card slots: At least one CFexpress Type B slot is almost certain for internal RAW recording. Dual slots (CFe + SD) are likely on a pro-oriented model.
- Speed & AI AF: High continuous shooting rates and advanced subject-detection autofocus inherited from the EXPEED 7 / Z9 generation.
- Positioning: Frequently described as a “mini-Z9,” “mini-ZR,” or professional APS-C speed camera. Some earlier reports even floated limited RED color science influence.
A September 2026 announcement window has been mentioned in recent roadmap updates, though that remains speculative.
Why This Matters
Nikon’s current DX lineup (Z50II, Zfc, Z30) doesn’t have a flagship APS-C camera, whereas Canon is planning for the 2nd-gen Canon R7 II, and Sony will also refresh its A6700 either in 2026 or 2027. So, only Nikon is the camera brand left that actually skipped the announcement of a true APS-C Flagship mirrorless camera.

We are still in pure rumor territory. No official images, full specifications, or announcement date have been released by Nikon. The Apple listing could theoretically be a placeholder or error, though the dual ProRes / ProRes RAW placement makes that less likely.
