According to the latest information, Nikon is testing an 88-megapixel full-frame sensor [exctaly the specification was 88.48 FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor], which may be used in the Nikon Z7 Mark 3 camera. To be very clear, it may not be used; it is only for testing purposes. However, at the same time, we are not sure whether third-party lenses.

45MP is not high resolution in 2024. There is space for a 60-100MP model, good to see Know working on HR sensor
Even though my made-up Z7III would have higher resolution than the Z8, the slower sensor readout of the partially stacked sensor, the thermal management considerations (due to size), and the handling of higher-resolution files would mean that the Z8 would retain advantages in focus, speed and video that would justify its higher price.
