Good News: RED Loses Battle Against Nikon, Back in MAY 2022 RED sued Nikon for infringing its video compression patents. This happened just after when Nikon added an internal lossless video compression update to the Nikon Z9 camera with a firmware 2.0
And the most interesting part was red sued Nikon, based on their patent(s) and not on any Existential technology, on the other side Nikon has implemented a similar kind of technology to the Nikon Z9 camera For recording RAW videos internally.
Now in September 2022, Nikon challenged back and started its own set of legal proceedings against RED. But today news arrived from petapixel, that the case has been dismissed against Nikon by the court as per rule 41.
And the most interesting part is this according to rule 41 the case was dismissed on a kind of agreement by both parties, they mutually agreed to dissolve the case and that’s why the case has been dismissed and RED lost the battle intentionally without having a proper fight with Nikon
Maybe Nikon has paid a good amount of money to buy the license fees OR they have paid some remuneration fees for the loss, its not very clear since none of them are coming in public to address this specific issue.
