Leica M10 Coming on September 2012

According to latest rumor coming form SteveHuff (reader info) Leica M10 Coming on September 2012 and M10 shipping will start from February or March 2013, , now take a look at M10 rumored specification

  • 24 Megapixel full frame CMOS sensor
  • Live View and high resolution LCD
  • ISO up to 10,000

  • Full HD / HD video recording
  • New body design, but will have the same M series look

In an interview with British Journal of Photography and other UK-based photography magazines, Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Leica ‘s head of supervisory board When asked if such a new camera could include HD OR FULL HD video features, Kaufmann said that

“theoretically, yes,” adding that there are some issues with introducing video in a camera – “the data rate, the heat, and the battery lifecycle, but I think we solved that. No comment until we show it on existing and new models.”
He added: “HD video is interesting, and a lot of photographers would love to have it (in an M body).”

Leica Mirrorless system unlikely to be introduced in 2012?
When British Journal of Photography  asked about the Mirrorless system, Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, said that

“We can’t produce enough of what we already have,”……”There’s a project in place, but no timeframe. But you should come to our event on 17 September to see what we have.”

Last year CEO Alfred Schopf said that they ” We are developing Mirrorless system that may use a APS-C sized sensor and …..You will see something at the next Photokina (Photokina 2012)”

Leica’s head also confirmed that the Leica would continue to work with Truesense Imaging, the equity firm that took over Kodak’s sensor operations. The Upcoming M models may use sensors made by the Truesense Imaging.

1. Leica X2 with 18 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor

2. Leica Monochrome M rangefinder.

3. 50mm f/2 Summicron-M lens (price approx $3,300)

Leica Monochrome rangefinder will arrive with Body design same as M9, Black & White full frame sensor, display screen and Better High ISO performance (compared to Leica M9),

I had a chat last night to a very good friend of mine in Melbourne who owns and runs a large print house (which shall remain nameless for now to protect the guilty). He astutely pointed out to me a new sensor Dalsa have placed on their website for all to see HERE.

What application can this sensor have? Clearly its not for Canon or Nikon, or even Sony for that matter. Its a CCD sensor for a start.

Looking closely at the specifications it becomes obvious to both of us that this can probably only be a sensor for the Leica M10?

Or, are we drawing to long a bow?

We know that in Mid September 2012 Leica will announce two new camera,

Two New Leica Cameras Coming Soon?

Few days ago on Leica Experience Day Dr. Kaufmann promised more than one surprise for next year (at photokina year 2012), Now DSLR magazine posted on Twitter that Leica is working on two new cameras and one of them is economical model ( according to Leica’s).

According to informed sources, Leica would be working simultaneously on two new models, one of them a more “economical” … for Leica

So with Lecia M10 we may see a new Pro compact camera or Mirrorless System from Lecia on photokina 2012.

Firmware Update: Leica M9

Few days ago we have published news Leica is developing firmware for SD card issue in Leica M9, today Leica announced the new firmware but still warns against using San Disk Extreme Pro SDHC I UHS-I and San Disk Extreme HD Video SDHC I memory cards in the M9, as “since we have experienced sphoradic difficulties with them during the test phase.” and “It is only that at the moment, a 100% compatibility of the M9 with these cards cannot be warranted. Support for these memory cards is still in development and we will provide a further firmware update for download after successfully testing compatibility.”.
