Nikon Japan launches my Picturetown 3D

3D image conversion service that enables viewing of high-quality 3D images without specialized eyewear on a dedicated 3D digital photo frame
TOKYO – Nikon Corporation and Nikon Imaging Japan Inc. are pleased to announce the launch of my Picturetown 3D, a new 3D imaging service that offers 3D image conversion over the Internet for viewing of 3D images on a dedicated 3D digital photo frame.

my Picturetown 3D is a service for registered members that offers a 3D image conversion service available from Nikon’s my Picturetown, an online image sharing and storage service, and supports viewing of 3D images without specialized eyewear on the new NF-300i 3D digital photo frame. The primary services offered are as follows.

  • Loan of an NF-300i 3D digital photo frame
  • 3D image conversion of still images stored on my Picturetown
  • Viewing and sharing services for 3D image utilizing my Picturetown functions
  • Distribution of 3D contents (still photos and movies) with my Picturetown

These services not only allow users to view their photos in dynamic 3D format, but also enable the sharing of 3D images between NF-300i 3D digital photo frames.
What’s more, the Android mobile operating system has been adopted for the NF-300i 3D digital photo frame, enabling the inclusion of functions other than simple image viewing, including a calendar, a clock and display of weather information. my Picturetown 3D is only available in Japan.

The new “Capture more. Feel more.” brand site will feature a variety of contents and visuals representative of the “Capture more. Feel more.” tagline used throughout the world to describe the value and concept behind COOLPIX-series digital cameras. Not only will the site introduce the COOLPIX brand message, but it will also offer integrated collaboration with Flickr and Twitter, allowing users throughout the world to experience and share the COOLPIX world view themselves.

Throughout its long history of developing and utilizing optical and other advanced technologies for use in the development and manufacture of products and services, Nikon has taken its role in the capture of special moments, regardless of the age or situation, very seriously. Nikon will continue to offer the means to record and share the moments that are special to individuals through flexible products and services for all users of digital cameras.

The “Capture more. Feel more.” world view is expressed through text and images. As a number of types of images are displayed, the COOLPIX world view is expressed in an intuitive manner. 3. COOLPIX Explorer
The world’s largest photo sharing site, Flickr, currently contains roughly 155,000,000 images captured by COOLPIX cameras. Of these, approximately 40,000,000 are available with 1. Attribution, 2. Attribution Share Alike or 3. Attribution No Derivatives Creative Commons licenses. The “Create more. Feel more.” site will introduce approximately 40,000 of those that best express the brand’s world view. With COOLPIX Explorer, these images are displayed in random order, with new images automatically displayed every minute. In addition, visitors to the site who have a Twitter account can use COOLPIX Explorer to experience a new form of communication through photos by tweeting favorite photos to their followers. These features will promote the “Capture more. Feel more.” concept by exhibiting the special moments that occur so many times every day.

Many Canon EOS owners have either recently stepped-up or want to move into a new, higher-end digital SLR camera, and possibly elevate their lens system as well. Users looking to a camera like the EOS 60D or 7D often put a priority on reasonable weight and good handling, and this applies to their lenses as well as their cameras. Until now, Canon’s long zoom lens options have meant either putting up with lots of weight (EF 100-400mm L IS), living with possibly not enough telephoto power (the 70-200mm series), or a lens that didn’t really target the advanced user (EF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6, etc).
