USA today reported that Sony and others may take advantage due to shortage of supply of Nikon and Canon DSLR system(caused by the earthquake and tsunami) ,

Canon has 44.5% of the digital SLR market, followed by Nikon at 29.8%, Sony with 11.9% and Olympus at 5.1%, IDC says.
Mike Worswick, president of the Photographic Research Organization, which buys photo products for 500 independent camera stores.
With the shortages in cameras, due to the crisis, “The opportunity for Sony, Olympus and even Samsung to grow a little market share in the next few months is clearly out there,”

Some of you may already have noticed that it is difficult to pay less than retail for some camera/lenses these days – that is due to the fact that retailers themselves are bracing for the possibility of a tough few months. If they don’t have anything to fill their empty shelves with, they can’t sell you anything and or course they can’t make their commission
