Leica announced the Leica V-Lux 5 camera today. The Leica V-Lux 5 is actually a rebranded Panasonic FZ1000 II camera. With some slight design change you will be getting same core specification as you have seen inside .
You will be getting same sensor, lens and exactly same core specs in both the camera. However, price is bit different for V-LUX5 you have to pay $1250 and Panasonic FZ1000 II available at $850.

As it is a 20MP zoom camera, a comparison between this camera and a Nikon B700, would be good.
Why isn’t the PANASONIC DMC-FZ2500 a better option at about the same price here in Australia?
They should have called it GUCCI and sell it for $2,000. Who needs to pay $400 to have the LEICA logo on a $850 Panasonic FZ1000 mark II?
Bret — the Nikon B700 uses a much smaller 1/2.3″ sensor, pretty comparable to smartphone sensors these days. The Panasonic FZ1000 and FZ2500, ZS100 and ZS200, Sony RX10 and RX100, use much larger 1″ sensors. The B700 has a pixel resolution of 20 megapixels, but it won’t deliver an honest 20 megapixel optical resolution with that f/3.3-f6.5 lens… you need about an f/2.0 lens on such a small chip to avoid diffraction.
It is surprising that after several years and multiple iterations of Leica branded versions of Panasonic cameras, we still have only conjecture as to whether these are differentiated in any way other than by the red dot.
One would think it fairly simple to have a side by side shoot to verify whether there is any actual image processing difference. Is there a visible Leica color science impact?
Right now, no one knows.
@Phil
Tge FZ-2500 is a much older model and no longer listed on the Panasonic Australia website. This Leica camera is more about the brand name, there seems little need in paying 50 percent more for the same thing with a different name. Truly the same thing, not what people often say these days with things that aren’t.
Maybe it has different image algorithms?
@ Brett
The B700 is discontinued and replaced by the B600. Sounds the wrong way around but it’s right ?. Similar specs, although has a 16 MP sensor instead of a 20 MP. Although the same size sensor, the pixel pitch is therefore larger and should take better low light photos. The sensor is also likely more advanced.
