The Nikon Group would like to express its profound sympathy and condolences to the victims of earthquake in Major Earthquake in Northern Japan (Japan’s Tohoku region) on March 11. The effects to our group companies are as follows.
- Measures to cope with the situations
We have set up the Emergency Headquarters for Disaster Control headed by the President on March 11 immediately after the earthquake, and are taking the necessary steps. We are currently endeavoring to normalize our business as early as possible through our BCM (Business Continuity Management) teams established in each in-house company.
- Damage to our group companies
- 2-1. Damage to equipment and buildings
- Our group companies, including Sendai Nikon Corporation, Natori, Miyagi Pref., Miyagi Nikon Precision Co., Ltd., Zao-machi, Katta-gun, Miyagi Pref., Tochigi Nikon Corporation, Otawara, Tochigi Pref., Tochigi Nikon Precision Co., Ltd., Otawara, Tochigi Pref., and other subsidiaries as well as our Plants suffered damage to some part of the equipment and buildings. We are suspending operations there and continuing to evaluate further details of the damage. We are unable to announce how soon the operation will resume due to the regional interruption of life-lines although endeavor for restoration are under the way by some of our maintenance personnel.
- 2-2. Damage to personnel
- Injury is reported to some of our group employees. We are currently continuing to gather safety information of our personnel and its family members.
- Forecast of effect by the damage to our business performances
We are concentrated in evaluating how the immediate damage by the disaster and controlled interruption of electricity started from March 14 will result in our group companies and business performances. We will advise our findings immediately when it is revealed that the damage would further expand

Latest news form a German photographer, Claudius Schulze, posted in his blog that he just pre-ordered the Nikon D800 from Nikon representative.
DP Review member claims that”The D800 (not the D4) will have a sensor carriage that can be easily removed by an authorized dealer.”
later he add the spec of the camera – “The D800 will have a 16.4MP FX Nikon designed sensor. By September 2011 Nikon will have the first available replaceable sensor available.”

TOKYO – Nikon Corporation’s D3100 digital-SLR camera, recipient of the iF Product Design Award 2011, is also a recipient of the iF Communication Design Award 2011. The iF Design Awards are globally prestigious awards sponsored by International Forum Design GmbH of Hanover Germany. As recipient of two prestigious iF awards in 2011, the Nikon D3100 has proven its superior design.
Nikon entered the D3100 in the iF Communication Design Award’s Product Interfaces category. The D3100’s GUI was designed for simple operation that can be quickly mastered by even first-time users of a digital-SLR camera, and its major feature is the Guide Mode menus that allow users to gradually increase their photographic knowledge and skill. The camera won the iF Communication Design Award based on the usability, look and feel, and uniqueness of its interface.
Six independent and equally important design awards, collectively known as the iF Design Awards, have been sponsored by International Forum Design(iF) based in Hanover Germany, since 1953. Each year, industrial products exhibiting superior design from around the world are selected as recipients of these prestigious awards, among them the Product Design Awards, Communication Design Awards and Packaging Awards. About this software:
ViewNX 2 is a software application for organising, sorting, displaying, viewing, and editing images and movies captured with digital cameras. This is the full install version of ViewNX 2.1.1 for Windows OS computers.

– An issue that prevented display of images scanned in NEF format with the COOLSCAN V has been resolved.
– An issue that prevented display of printer profiles created with X-Rite ColorMunki Photo has been resolved.

– Support for the COOLPIX P500, COOLPIX P300, COOLPIX L120, COOLPIX L23, COOLPIX S9100, COOLPIX S6100, COOLPIX S4100 and COOLPIX S3100 was added.
– A function for attaching images to e-mail messages was added.
– The following printing functions were added.
– The number of rows and columns can be specified for the Index Print option.
– Images can be printed with borders.
– Options of 1 x 1, 3 x 2 and the same aspect ratio as the original image were added to the Crop function.

– The function for uploading images to my Picturetown was eliminated from Nikon Transfer 2. Images can be uploaded to my Picturetown using ViewNX 2.
– Playback time of the portion of a movie that remains when the trim function is used is displayed in Nikon Movie Editor’s Trim dialog.
– An indicator was added to show where transition effects cannot be added to the Nikon Movie Editor storyboard.
– When images were resized and cropped and then saved in NEF format with Nikon Capture 4 were opened, the crop was not accurately displayed. This issue was resolved.
– When decimal points were indicated using a comma by the OS and a search on the GeoTag screen was performed, search results did not show the accurate locations. This issue was resolved.
– When a large number of images were displayed in quick succession, image display sometimes failed. This issue was resolved.
– When the value in the Exposure Comp. input box was changed and the Save button was clicked while the change was being applied, a confirmation dialog was displayed because a different process was being applied as the image was being saved. This issue was resolved.
– When the Sort option was set to Date Shot, the first image displayed was not selected with application start up. This issue was resolved.
– When multiple NEF files were selected, keyword(s) added, and the images then saved, an error occurred while the images were being saved. This issue was resolved.
– When files were converted with certain computer systems, an “Unexpected error” message was displayed and the files could not be converted. This issue was resolved.
– An issue that prevented proper operation of the arrow keys on the keyboard after files were deleted from the filmstrip was resolved.
