Nikon P700 - Big Sensor Mega Zoom Camera

Nikon may soon announce Nikon P700 camera along with Nikon P8000 camera, the Nikon P700 will  feature a 1 inch sensor (possibly made by aptina) and a 24-2000mm f/3.5 – 8.5 (full frame equivalent) lens, take a look at the rumored specification below…

Nikon P700 Rumored Specification

  • 1 inch sensor
  • 24-2000mm f/3.5 – 8.5 zoom lens with VR (full frame equivalent)
  • All magnesium build with a big grip
  • 3.5″ LCD screen (Yes 3.5″, not 3″)
  •  1.3 kg/45.8 oz weight – too heavy
  • Expeed 4 image processor
  • The official announcement is expected in May

Its’ look like Nikon is ready to introduce a new line of compact camera with 1 inch sensor, the Nikon P8000 will be a ultra compact camera (Rx100 / RX100 M2 competitor) and Nikon P700 will be a 1 inch sensor based megazoom camera(Sony RX10 competitor).

  • Nikon P-series cameras are generally point and shoot, with probably some exceptions. The Nikon P900 is an 83X lens. Going out this far with a point and shoot to 2000mm seems a bit much to me. The argument of course will be that to get that far out, you would have to have a gigantic, very expensive lens on a DSLR to accomplish this. I suppose a print with bad IQ is better than no print at all. I am guessing this P700 will be somewhat similar to the P900. I own a DSLR and a Nikon L840 point and shoot for my grab and go camera, 38X. $230.00.
