When Sigma announced its SD1 digital camera its price was $9,700 now listed at $6,899.00 at B&H Store with a tag of “New item – No arrival date known”.
The Sigma COO, Kazuto Yamaki, responded on Twitter to some photographers asking about the SD1 price, This is his Twitter account.
If this is correct, my interpretation is:
“This really is a £2000 camera, you should judge it as a £2000 camera and compare it to £2000 cameras but owing to our engineering difficulties, it’s going to cost you £6,000. Sorry about that.”
So we are back to: who will buy a camera that is 3 or 4x over-priced owing to engineering problems. It was never meant to be a MF or D3x competitor, yet it ends up going up against them.
Dead in the water, surely?
Canon major announcement coming in august 2011, CR said “The 1Ds Mark III replacement and 3 lenses will be announced. No detail into what lenses.”
Nikon confirmed to PDNonline that all upcoming new products will be released as scheduled:
“Nikon is actively working to maximize production during this challenging time. Nikon have said their launch schedule is unaffected and a major Nikon announcement is supposedly due for the end of August.
So, a tentative 1Ds3 replacement in mid August, followed by a D4 at the end of the month, and a 5D mk3 for September? …
The latest Multi-Shot Camera will cost you $45,000. It will create 200 Megapixel of large files. The H4D-200MS features a 50 Megapixel sensor but uses Hasselblad’s multishot technology combines six shots into one. The Multi Shot technology not uses the method stitching 6 shot together, it works with a piezoelectric motor that moves the camera’s image sensor little bit before taking each photo. You will need tripod for using this technique and yes it is only applicable to still subjects such as watches, cars etc.,
Press Release Hasselblad’s latest multi-shot camera, which delivers unprecedented 200 megapixel files, is currently shipping. Upgrades for H4D-50MS cameras are also available.
After careful testing for stability and color accuracy, the H4D-200MS – first announced at Photokina last September – is now available. Based on the H4D-50MS platform, the new camera is capable of creating 200 megapixel files for the ultimate in resolution.
Since 2000, Hasselblad has continuously developed its multi-shot technology. In 2008, the company announced the first integrated multi-shot camera – the H3DII-39MS – which was followed more recently by the H4D-50MS. As a further development of the H4D-50MS technology, the H4D-200MS utilizes Hasselblad’s patented piezo frame module, which now captures 6 shots and combines them into an astounding 200 megapixel file.
Designed for studio photographers whose work requires the ultimate in resolution, extremely fine details and exact color information, the H4D-200MS is ideal for capturing images of stationary items such as cars, jewelry, artwork and other high end products where there is no room for compromise in image quality. In addition to its extended multi-shot capabilities, the H4D-200MS offers standard multi-shot and single-shot modes as well. Naturally, this extraordinary capture device offers all the benefits of the H4D family of cameras such as True Focus, Ultra Focus and Digital Lens Correction, to name just a few.
The H4D-200MS is available now for 32.000 Euro (plus tax). H4D-50MS owners have the option of upgrading their systems for 7.000 Euro (plus tax) by sending the camera to the factory in Copenhagen, Denmark. While the camera is being converted, the service team will make sure that the firmware and hardware is updated to ensure that the piezo modules’ strict tolerances, which are necessary for precise multi-shot capture, are met.
