While gathering the details of the DJI Avata 360, we have found something really very interesting. According to the latest report, DJI is still working on an Avata 3, but it is not normal. It’s an evolution of the existing DJI Avata 360 camera, which features an Avata 3 panoramic-style gimbal camera just like the 360, but it is going to be called the Avata 3.
Why we have picked this news so early: we generally wait for multiple confirmations from different lines of sources, but the news is coming from…
Respected drone creator Mauro Tandoi (@MauroTandoi) on X (formerly Twitter). He shared a screenshot of a WeChat-style message from a trusted Chinese source who claims to have personally flown the prototype.

Here’s the exact translated leak:
“Next year Avata 3 will be released. The latest information I received is that the Avata 3 gimbal is panoramic, similar to the viewing angle of DJI’s 360 panoramic camera. I also test-flew it once, and it doesn’t feel as good to fly as the Avata 2 😭”
Mauro added his own insight:
“Avata 2 is complementary to Avata 360….”
This single post (published March 20, 2026) has immediately sparked massive discussion among US FPV pilots. With the Avata 360 launching in China on March 26, 2026 and global rollout in early April, the timing couldn’t be more perfect for this rumor.
Should You Wait or Buy Avata 360?
Absolutely, we have added this question since it can be raised in your mind, as we all know the March 26 official announcement date of the Avata 360. After that, it will become available in mainland China, and most probably in the fourth week of April, it will also become available in the United States of America.
If you are living in the United States of America and waiting for the Avata 360, then this is the best time to wait for it and pre-order it as soon as it becomes available in the United States of America, and there is no need to wait for the Avata 3 drone for now, since it is about to arrive sometime in late 2027. It will not be FCC-approved, since DJI is fighting with the FCC on this matter, and the ban has continued from December 22, 2025, so they are not able to register any new drone in the FCC. So the Avata 3, even if announced, due to the lack of FCC approval, will not be allowed to be sold in the United States of America.
Bottom line: The leak strongly suggests Avata 3 = upgraded Avata 360 successor — same FPV DNA, but with a next-level panoramic (dual-camera) gimbal. It’s not replacing the Avata 360; it’s the 2027 refresh.
USA Availability, Pricing & FAA Outlook for Avata 3
It is still too early to comment on the availability, announcement dates, or any specific specifications related to the DJI Avata 3 or the Avata 360 successor for now. In general, big companies like DJI always have several prototypes of multiple drones in testing, and it is quite obvious that they have started development on the successor to the Avata 360. However, please note that the Avata 360 is very new. The Avata 3 is expected to feature dual-mode video recording capability — full 360° as well as normal FPV-style video — and the best part is that it is coming under budget, FCC approved, and will be available in the United States of America.
At the end of the day, we highly recommend covering this story. We see authenticity in it due to the credible source involved. We are still very much looking forward to the Avata 3 arrival next year. We will cover more details as soon as we get any new information on this.
