Insta360 Officially Unveils Luna Pocket Camera: The Handheld Gimbal Camera Challenging DJI's Dominance

In a very bold move, Insta360 CEO Liu Jingkang has officially announced the upcoming pocket camera, Luna, at the company’s annual meeting today. He confirmed that it will arrive in the first half of 2026. This is a confirmation of our earlier news that the Insta360 Pocket Camera was about to arrive. Other than that, Luna is set to be a direct competitor to the upcoming DJI Pocket 4 camera (not the Pocket 3, as explained later in the article).

We have already extensively covered in our previous articles all the possible rumors related to Insta360’s entry (see here and here) into the pocket gimbal series. The company started making waves a while ago when we saw multiple leaks of its prototype modular-design-based cameras. Based on the exclusive reports we covered on TheNewCamera.com, the upcoming Luna camera—yes, that’s its official name, now confirmed by the CEO—will be a perfect device for content creators and will obviously adapt to the Insta360 ecosystem. It will undoubtedly become a strong rival to the DJI Pocket series cameras.

During the presentation, press members who were part of the event captured images that are now publicly available. The CEO emphasized that Luna is definitely not another pocket camera. He clearly underlined that it is not based on DJI technology or their Pocket line. By saying “definitely not another pocket camera,” he indicated that Insta360 has included a visible dual-camera setup and has significantly upgraded the videography features compared to the Pocket 3. That’s why, from the very beginning of this article, we have described it as a direct competitor to the Pocket 4.

Key Details of the Announcement

Release Timeline: The CEO himself confirmed that the camera will arrive in the first half of 2026. That means it could launch as early as March (end of Q1) or sometime in Q2 2026. So the maximum waiting period is only a few months—Luna is clearly coming sooner rather than later.

Design and Features: While full specifications are still under wraps, earlier leaks suggest a modular system, possibly with interchangeable camera modules and a dual-lens setup. Advanced stabilisation and improved video capabilities are also expected.

Colour Options: Multiple variants for personalisation, moving beyond basic designs to appeal to creative users.

Pricing Rumours: Anticipated to fall between $499–$699, making it a competitive alternative to DJI’s offerings.

How Luna Fits in the Insta360 Ecosystem

Insta360 is already a market leader in 360 cameras. If we talk specifically about 360 cameras, models like the X5 and Ace Pro 2 are leading the market. Although DJI has entered this segment with its own products, even after announcing the DJI Osmo 360, the popularity of the Insta360 ecosystem remains strong.

Just need a standalone insta360 mic to add Professional quality Audio in Luna Pocket Camera

In the meantime, Insta360 has also developed a cohesive ecosystem similar to DJI’s. For example, their wireless microphone system integrates seamlessly with their cameras, allowing users to record clear audio without attaching an additional receiver to the camera body. This clearly indicates that the upcoming Luna—essentially Insta360’s pocket-style camera—will be part of this expanding ecosystem. The Insta360 wireless mic can be easily synchronized within this system, offering a smooth and integrated experience similar to what we have already seen in competing ecosystems.

What Does the Insta360 Pocket Camera (Luna) Mean for the Market?

The Luna announcement marks Insta360’s entry into a well-established pocket gimbal camera market largely created and dominated by DJI. However, everything will depend on the offerings and pricing strategy Luna brings to consumers.

If DJI users find Luna’s features attractive and reasonably priced, many who were planning to upgrade to the Pocket 4 might reconsider. As per current information, the DJI Pocket 4 is expected to come with a single camera module, while the Pocket 4 Pro may feature a dual-camera setup later this year.

If the dual-camera-based Luna performs well and comes within a reasonable price range, new users—especially first-time buyers—may lean toward Insta360 instead of DJI. Apart from specifications and pricing, we also know that DJI is facing regulatory challenges in the USA. That could influence some buyers’ decisions in favor of Insta360 instead of the Pocket 4.

For now, these are all possibilities before the official product launch. But we are certain that Luna and the DJI Pocket 4 will both be announced before June 2026.

We will continue covering all possible updates about the upcoming Insta360 Luna camera here at TheNewCamera.com. Stay tuned and stay updated.
