Let’a talk about the major difference between the two camera.
42X More Optical Zoom Than Nikon Nikon P900
One of the major difference we are getting in between these two models are the massive zoom lens in Nikon P1000 camera. The camera features 125X optical Zoom Lens which is of course 42X more optical Zoom than its predecessor.

As the P1000 and P900 both have 16MP resolution, a comparison including the B700, which has 20MP resolution, and UHD (“4K”) video, would be good.
I think that, with all of the other specifications of the P1000, it should have a still image resolution, of at least 20MP, if not 24MP.
It is a big heavy monster of a camera so please explain to me how the average user can really make use of the extra reach from 2,000mm (P900) to 3,000mm.
Plus it is not a touch screen.
You have the weight green under the P1000. It should be green under the P900. It’s lighter. Also, it would be easier to compare if both weights were Grams – or Kilograms, but not mixed.

Such cameras are best used with a sturdy tripod, and, the Nikon P1000 and P900 (and, I think, B700 and P600, which have WiFi but not NFC) can be controlled using a cellphone or tablet PC, as a modern replacement for a cable release as used with film cameras on tripods.
So, the size and weight issues, are only as much of a problem, as the user makes them, given the focal length range, and, the need for stability at the maximum focal length ranges of these “super zoom” digital camneras.
But, as the P600 has 16MP still image resolution, for maximum focal length of 1.44m, and the B700 has 20MP still image resolution for the same maximum focal length, perhaps, the P900, with maximum focal length of 2.0m, should have still image resolution of 20MP, and, the P1000, with maximum focal length of 3.0m, should have still image resolution of 30MP, to retain the proportionality of the P600, of approximately 10MP per metre of lens focal length.

With the P1000, Nikon has done a brilliant job of zeroing in on the ever growing flat earth community target market. Many people who cared little or nothing about cameras were heaping praise over the P900. Flat Earth forums were ranting about its Zoom capabilities. I have never seen a camera be talked about as much as the P900 in my lifetime. The other major camera makers have been pathetically slow to tap into this new and growing target market called the flat earth community. The P1000 has greatly expanded on the P900’s capabilities. I wouldn’t be surprised if it now becomes the most talked about camera in the world with sales to boot.
