Nikon is working on a high-end mirrorless camera ? In an recent interview at Japanese news paper Nikon’s President Mr. Kazuo Ushida confirms that they will release a new mirrorless camera.
“Structural reform does not exclude all possibilities. In terms of product, you should also compete with medium and high-end SLR single lens reflexes. While targeting genre top, earn profits even if sales falls. With generations grew up on smart phones I will give out a “Nikonashii” mirrorless camera that made a difference to other companies in terms of performance. I want to overwhelm the performance of the lens by making use of industrial lens technology, but also need playfulness”
Few months ago we got hint that Nikon is working in expansion of Nikon 1 series camera, but it is also possible that Nikon will going to release upcoming fullframe mirrorless camera under new brand name.

I’ve been saying for 2 years the DF replacement should be mirrorless. It already has the classic form factor that most mirrorless cameras adopt anyway and it’s a niche product at the moment and not directly a competitor for their DSLRs. Why not then make the DF2 their high end entry into FF mirrorless as the test bed. Ultimately all cameras will be mirrorless so now is the time to move for Canon and Nikon at the high end. AT least Canon has the very good M5/M6 and strong rumours they will release FF mirrorless at next year’s Photokina.
Mirrorless is peripheral in Ushidas statement. He wants to make a real ‘difference in performance…. by use of industrial lens technology’.
Can anyone elucidate what he is driving at?
It’s time to make a change. Hope Nikon don’t take to long for their mirrorless full frame and the price with in reason. Tired of waiting on Canon.
