Just after the announcement of the Fujifilm XE5 camera, PetaPixel conducted an interview with the Fujifilm developers team, and in that long interview, in some of the lines, they have confirmed — and this is not the first time they are confirming — it is better to say they are reconfirming what they said 3 months ago during the CP+ show: that the X-Pro series remains a key part of the future roadmap. And according to Yuji Igarashi, a prominent figure in Fujifilm’s camera division…
“The X-Pro is on our roadmap, along with the X-E camera,” Igarashi stated, signaling that the company has plans to revive the series with a new model, potentially the X-Pro 6.
Fuji X-Pro 6 in the works
Some of the websites speculated that Fuji might have indeed ended the X-Pro series or that they have sidelined it in favour of their X-T or the X-H series cameras. But that’s not the truth. Fujifilm managers, during the interview, have clearly mentioned that they are working on the X-Pro series next-generation body and they will bring it out when it’s the perfect time to do so.
But the big question is whether the new X-Pro could carve out a distinct identity in the X-series lineup, since as we all know, the Fuji XE5 is the fifth model of the X lineup which is using a 40-megapixel X-Trans 5th generation sensor and 5th generation X-Processor Pro. Thankfully, Igarashi has also confirmed that the next X-Pro will bring something special and not boring. That clearly indicates the company is taking its time to ensure the upcoming X-Pro 6 camera stands out in the crowd and will bring new technology to the Fuji X-series lineup.
The sixth-generation possibilities
Notably, no one has mentioned the X-Pro 6 name before — not even the famous Fuji rumour mill — but since they have already used the fifth generation of the sensor in, including the XE5, and at the very same time Fujifilm executive Yuji confirmed that they will bring new technology in the next X-Pro model, so the overall situation has sparked speculation that the next X-Pro series camera will bring 6th generation of sensor technology or the image processor technology or maybe both combined. So, such a move will align with Fujifilm’s goal of making the X-Pro 6 a standout product. And if they are using 6th generation of technology inside the camera, they will automatically name the camera X-Pro 6 — not X-Pro 4 or 5 — to avoid confusing the users.
When is the Fuji X-Pro 6 camera coming?
The camera makers have not provided a specific timeline. I hope and expect that Fujifilm will release the next X-Pro series model sometime in 2026, although we are waiting for more confirmation about the exact release date.

Fuji Upcoming Cameras 2025 – 2026

By admin, on March 24th, 2025

So finally, we got confirmation from the general manager of Fuji Film Professional Imaging Group that the Fuji X-Pro 4 is under development. In a recent interview with PetaPixel, he clearly stated that.
He noted that a simple upgrade with the latest processor or just a 40-megapixel sensor would be boring, indicating a major shift or upgrade in the upcoming X-Pro series camera.
Previous reports suggest that the upcoming X-Pro series camera will be called X-Pro 6 since Fuji will sync the name of the X-Pro series camera with others in 2026. It has been almost six years since the Fuji X-Pro 3 was released. The camera was announced in October 2019, and now it feels too old. Fuji has taken too much time, considering that even flagship cameras from other brands receive regular updates every four to five years. However, we have been waiting for more than six years now.
The Fuji X-Pro 3 had very low sales, and many owners of Fuji’s X-Pro 2 cameras decided not to upgrade their gear due to its unusual display setup. The Hidden flipping screen design of the X-Pro 3 failed to impress professional photographers. Due to the low sales of the series, Fuji decided to halt the research, development, and announcement of the next X-Pro camera for a while. And at one point of time, Fuji also realized that introducing a Hidden tilting display—which was practically useless—was a mistake. That so-called innovative design failed to impress professional photographers, ultimately leading to the X-Pro 3’s poor sales performance.

We have seen how Fuji handled the X100 series in its recent update. Not only did they add a 40-megapixel high-resolution sensor to that compact body, but they also introduced a 6-stop sensor-shift IBIS mechanism, making the Fuji X100VI one of the best street photography cameras ever created.
And that’s not all—the camera also includes a built-in 4-stop ND filter paired with a fast lens. What more could one ask for in a camera like this?
Similarly, Fuji is now focusing all its attention on developing the next version of the X-Pro series. Let’s hope that this time, we see a massive upgrade with significant changes. Stay tuned for more updates!

According to the latest coming from the Fuji rumor mill, the Fuji X-Pro3 successor, which might be called the Fuji X-Pro 5 or the Fuji X-Pro 6 depending upon the time of its arrival and siblings’ name at that time, is delayed and one thing for sure no X-Pro 4 coming. Even the rumor mill is sure of one thing NO X-PRO series update will arrive in 2025, which is why it’s safe to say it may arrive in 2026.
So what’s the biggest reason that Fuji is continuously delaying the update of the Fuji X-Pro series camera? The marketing team has seen the sales numbers of the Fuji X-Pro3 camera, and due to the LOW VOLUME of purchases made compared to the previous two versions of the camera, the series has been delayed for further updates.

And what’s the biggest reason behind the low sales numbers of the X-Pro3? It was the display screen. They have created a unique kind of display screen, which was good for nothing, and if you want to see the actual display of the camera, you have to go through a very hard way. The display was not properly tilting in the backward direction of the camera, so it was kind of an entire design blunder. They were trying to make a kind of Leica M11 series or what we don’t know at this moment, but the existing user base of the X-Pro series camera was not that happy. Even at the time of the announcement, I have posted the comments I have received, and the feedback that I received at that moment mostly suggested that better to invest in the X-T series rather than getting this camera with this weird type of display.
Fuji must learn from their past mistakes. Whenever they want to announce the X-Pro series, it’s completely good; it depends upon their own marketing team’s decision and whatever future strategies they have—it’s all okay. But they should at least include a good fixed display screen in their camera, or even if they want to add a very handy tilting display, it’s most welcome. They should keep it as simple as possible for photographers.
