Does the 105mm AF-DC F2.0 do autofocus with the D3200? I can’t get it to do it, I think this camera has the same limitations as the D40X.

  • admin

105mm AF-DC F2.0 WILL NOT DO autofocus with the D3200

If your lens have AF-S Designation then it will work with your Nikon D3200 DSLR, for example
Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S VR – Will work with Nikon D3200
Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF – Will not work with Nikon D3200

Buy Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX Lens

  • Hi, I am looking for a new lens to replace my kit lens. I am debating between the 35 mm 1.8 and the 50 mm 1.8. I do a lot of food photography and looking for that blurring background look when shooting people or food. But really don’t understand the difference between the two. Can you help?

This article was really helpful, thanks!

  • admin

Both lens will create excellent bokeh (background blur), but the 35mm will cove more objects in the frame and 50mm will cover a limited frame range, and also keep in mind that 50mm lens is a FX format lens so it will act as a (50 X 1.5) 75mm lens.

Just bought Nikon D3200, every picture I took even with switching lenses the bottom 1/3 images black. what causes this and how did I fix

  • admin

Check your camera mode dial and select Aperture priority mode for shooting normal images without flash.

Also check your exposure compensation is skewed towards the (-) negative, which will produce underexposed (dark) photos. The exposure compensation can be found on the LCD, represented by a series of hash marks from (-) to (0) to (+).

You can adjust the exposure compensation by pressing the (i) button and navigating to the Exposure Compensation tab on the LCD screen. You can also adjust it, by pressing the +/- button and rotating the command dial at the same time. What you want to do is set it to 0 (zero).

You are using flash ? —- You’re shooting with a shutter speed faster than your sync speed (most likely 1/200 or 1/250). Your camera’s shutter consists of two curtains — the first one opens to begin the exposure, and the second follows it — closing to end the exposure. At speeds slower than your camera’s sync speed, these two curtain movements allow at least a tiny fraction of time between opening and closing, but at faster shutter speeds, the closing curtain is actually chasing the opening curtain, creating a moving slit of exposure. A flash occurring during such an exposure is only going to illuminate part of the sensor – hence, the dark bar.

Thanks for sharing this info with us. I hope you don’t mind answering my question too :-))
I recently shot a wedding, during family photos I had to back pretty far, in my opinion, to get the whole family in the shot. Can you suggest an inexpensive lens for the d3200 that will take the place of my backwards shuffle? Would a wide angle lens attachment work or is that a waste of $?
Thank you for your time :-))
