And later on, after the ban, Xtra Brand announced full compatibility with the DJI ecosystem. That’s the point they made the biggest mistake.
The FCC’s action treats this category of products as an attempted circumvention of the foreign UAS and related equipment restrictions. While the Xtra Muse is a camera rather than a traditional drone, the Commission has made clear that communications and video surveillance equipment containing technology it associates with covered sources can also fall under the same framework.
This is an important expansion of enforcement. Earlier actions focused heavily on actual drones. The inclusion of pocket gimbal cameras signals that the agency is willing to pursue products that sit at the edge of the original restrictions.
Impact on Current Owners
This is the most important clarification for existing buyers:
If you already own an Xtra Muse, the proposal does not ground it or make it illegal to use.
The FCC has allowed US citizens to keep using what they are using for now, and the limitation applies to importation and marketing, not to the operation of devices already sold to end users. Your camera continues to function under its existing authorization.
There is currently no indication that the FCC intends to pursue individual owners or require devices to be surrendered.
