Canon Japan teased a new image, a compact and vertically shaped camera under a curtain made for content creators that will arrive on 11 May 2023. We have a translated teaser image that says “Vlog new possibilities” on the extreme left side and on the right side, we have the date which is Thursday, May 11, 2023.
So, what’s under the curtain? As you can see, it’s an entirely new camera design which somehow looks vertical with a lens opening at its top (maybe a fixed lens compact camera ?). The shutter button is visible at the lower end of the extreme right side. It looks like a brand-new design from the camera maker and we are eagerly waiting for leaked images to have a glimpse of the camera
We do have some amazing Canon patents of Canon unique style vlogging cameras, but is the upcoming camera is same, or have a completely different design?
Canon already has cameras like the Canon R50 and Canon R10. Both of these cameras are capable of recording 10-bit HDR PQ videos.
Actually, the thing we miss in Canon is the open lens mount (yes I know I have published the new Canon open lens mount based on the information from the canon rumor mill, but when we tried to contact Meike over the same topic, they haven’t responded yet. So, it still looks fishy actually they have got some approval of it was a hoax created by the Canon rumor mill). So, the real problem is We have very less lens options to select from, in the Canon APS-C lens range compared to other camera makers, like Sony or even Nikon, which now have huge support from third-party lens makers.
Now, from the above teaser, it’s very clear that Canon wants to make a separate vloggers series camera, just like the Sony ZV series. At the same time, I also think that Canon will not stop with just one camera announcement if they are in the mood to compete with Sony’s ZV series cameras. Soon they will add other variations to this range once the PEAK SALE period for cameras goes away, which is likely to be in 7 to 8 months.
As soon as we get the leaked images and specifications of the soon-to-be-announced camera, we will publish them.

As a photographer, I think it would be great if Canon focused on creating more APS-C lenses or even opened up their lens mount to third-party options. Don’t get me wrong, full-frame cameras are amazing, but there are so many benefits to using smaller format sensors like APS-C. They’re more affordable, compact, and lightweight, plus they offer greater reach. Canon already has some great APS-C lenses for their EF-M and RF-S mounts, but having more options would be even better. And if they opened up their lens mount to third-party lenses, we’d have even more choices.
@stella u know the Canon EF-M mount is dead now ? so expecting new lenses for EF-M isn’t logical at all. Yes, they should focus on RF Mount APS-C lenses.. but I am 100% sure they will not
