Finally we came to know that the upcoming Canon G5X Mark II camera have 10min recording limit in 4K video mode. But, why 10min limit in G5X II camera? Nearest competitor RX100 VI doesn’t have such limit. May be Canon dealing with Sensor overheating issue, or may be the buffer of the camera isn’t so big to process large 4K file continuously for more than 10min, or it’s a force limitation to save the sales of Canon G1X Mark IV we can’t comment on that.
Canon G5X Mark II vs Sony RX100 VI 4K Recording Limit
Canon G5X Mark II | Sony RX100 VI |
UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) at 25p/29.97p | UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) at 24p/25p/29.97p |
Up to 10 Minutes | Up to 29 Minutes |
Well 4K recording limit may have some negative affect in the sales number of Canon G5X Mark II. We will update you soon as we get new information about G5X II camera.

This is extreme bad news because the same situation can be in G7X III. 2019 and record limit in 4k looks like Canon design a toy ( this level of device shouldn’t have any record limit )…hope Sony will answer fast with RX100 VII with MIC input.
Anyway, i will not buy this G5X-2. It is so different from the original G5X. I was waiting anxiously to see the improvement of the G5X before buying it. No way. I will not buy a bad clone of a RX100VI. This is a G7X with a pop up EVF.IMO,Canon is making a huge mistake. I don’t know what they are thinking.
How pathetic.
Perhaps 10 minutes limit to compensake Canon first 4K, 10 bit RGB, 1:1 full 1″ censor readout in customer market?
Sony RX100VI does have 4k recording limits, if I rely on this information
