  • I find that the ever tighter packing of pixels into a similar sized sensor does not address needs of photographers. With the introduction of the new RED Cinema sensors size does matter and the fight to have “glass” to accommodate these larger sensors is an issue, but it is one that is well worth it as we move into the Helium sensors and soon the Vista Vision ones will emerge I suspect. The other advantage is that with a larger foot print sensor design can begin to look at off angle light that is going to become more important as VR and other technologies evolve. We see this use with the Lytro new cine product, but the limitations based on file size and other demands make it less capable in situations we have all become accustom to that require a smaller camera. The emergence of still and 4k video seems to have captured all segments of the market and there seems little likelihood that this will change. Even in the RED the DSMC2 capabilities allow for taking of stills. And before you ask; I do have a read Weapon 8K Helium on the way, but I do a lot of still photography and smaller footprints do matter for many situations.
