Panasonic installed a photo booth in in Osaka and used 120 Lumix DMC-GH4 cameras to make the effective 3D figurine portraits . Through ultra fast 3D scanning with limited time frame of 1/1000 sec, the image of the subject captured is sharp even if it will be in motion , hanging in the air or any other position.
Video in Japanese.
To obtain the 3D portraits, the cameras are arranged in grid pattern covering the floor to ceiling of the booth facing towards the walls of the cylindrical booth. It is synchronized in such a way that the trigger of the camera goes on every one millionth of a second. In this process it collects 2 billion pixels of information and results in 1/10th life-size images.
The figurines are optional, and cost 55000 yen, plus tax, which is about $450/£280. For more information see the Panasonic Japan press release and watch a promotional video – both in Japanese.
