When asked “How are you addressing the demand for compact, 4K-capable cameras like Sony’s a7S and Panasonic’s GH4?“, Mr. Maeda said:

Naturally I can’t give you details of our future plans but we are fully aware that such requirements exist in the market. We’re currently in the process of investigating, mainly to satisfy the needs of news media, and we have every intention of addressing this need in future products.

Yes we are getting multiple rumors before this that Canon will going to implement 4K recording options to its upcoming DSLRs and we do also hope that they will implement it first on 5D Mark IV camera.

The history repeats itself all the time. The CSC market is already overcrowded now and it will soon be even more. Hyper competition and not necessarily the best but the most commercial systems will win. It’s already happening now in this niche which is in fact nothing more or less than a premium revamp of the compact & bridge camera kind of approach. I’d rather liked that Nikon & Canon stayed in the niche where they are having their skills & expertise in – the DSLRs – and eventually looked up to a higher MF or higher resolution / super pro kind of niche. I’m one of those that doesn’t believe that CSCs are holding the magical formula. We might see a hybridisation of the current DSLRs with the CSC market – no mirrors anymore in very DSLR-alike bodies, only EVF. Does it need to be? No. I still like everyone for what they’re doing the best in their range and CSCs are quite overrated in my eyes, most of these systems are still having issues to become a real, valid replacement of DSLRs.

Forget what Mr. Masaya said. There is a big gap between what he says and what Canon is doing. What this stupid man want to speed up? We don’t see future leading products (look at the 5Ds = matrginal update to the 5D Mark III) and the sold out products a few weeks after introduction like the new EF 100-400 IS II. That’s really a shame.

Canon is too late to go mirrorless. And in my eyes it makes no sense to go mirrorless. It’s more important to invent DSLR that meet the customers expectations.

I you look at the 4K market all products under 4000 bucks delivers a real poor image quality. Do you really want a stupid cheap solution.

Canon can’t implement 4K in the 5Ds because the camera targets at pros that need the megapixels and don’t or can’t go mid format and the processors are not able to handle the gigantic amount of data.

    I expect that wen don’t see 4K in a camera with more than 16, 18, 20, 22, or 24 megapixels.

What we really need is a Canon DSLR with AF down to -3 EV, very good AF system, shutter cycle around 250.000 shots, an outstanding image quality from ISO 25 to ISO 6400 with much more DR, two very fast CF card slots and a battery live up to 1400/1500 shots.
