Hello, thank you for this information in regards to best lenses for the Nikon D7100. I have recently purchased the D7100 and have been researching a good all around lens. Have you looked into the Nikkor AF-S 16-85mm? I have read that it produces more colorful and sharper images than the 18-200mm. I would like to ask you your thoughts on this. thank you so much. 🙂
Hi,
Take a look at the MTF graph of both the lenses, both produces sharp result even at Max aperture, But the best part is 16-85mm is getting +ve review from 18-200mm users.
SO if 16-85mm limited range is not a problem you can buy it.
Your review is quite informative. What is your opinion about the Nikkor 18-300 DX lens ? How can I get the optimum result from this lens ?
Nice all rounder lens, recommended for travel purpose.

Affordable zoom lens is – Nikon 55-300mm ED VR AF-S DX
High Recommended lens – AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II
i have the 16-85mm. It is sharp as a tack and it replaced my 18-200mm which I was never really happy with. I have paired it with the 55-200mm (despite the plastic mount) and this is also a fantastically sharp lens. Have just traded in my D90 and awaiting my new D7100 and these lenses are so good, i have no plans to replace them. The 35mm 1.g G is THE best prime lens bar none too…happy shooting….:)
Which lens for video. Also Can you zoom in video with the D7100?
You can use the recommended Zoom lenses for video shooting, Nikon doesn’t have any video specific zoom lens like Canon STM lenses.

PS HELP………………….
Ask you questions now
hi, I’m looking at getting the nikon d7100 and wondering what lens you would recommend for landscapes.
I have been looking at the Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Lens and also nikon 16-85mm lens, are these any good? open to any recommendations, thanks
Both the lenses are excellent, I have used both the lenses and the 10-24 is more better in controlling the distortion at 16mm, but bit worse at 24mm. With regards to vignetting, the 10-24 is better compared to 16-85 wide open, however if you will use a stopped down, the 16-85 wins.
Just want to tell you that both the lenses are amazing and very well built.
Hi I have the D7100 and have been thrown into fashion/catwalk photography to go along with video and I am looking for a good lens to work the catwalks of fashion shows that are low light and that is good for action….
Fashion photographers for the most part rely on a two-lens kit for event photography: a 17-55 f2.8 and a 70-200 f2.8. These lenses will provide the focal range and low-light capability often required at a variety of events.
I need a new lense for my Nikon 7100. I take fast moving action shots of football at night under low lights. I have an AF-S70-300VR and AF-s 18-135. Im looking to upgrade.
Any recommendations with the new lenses that have come out?
I have 2 Nikons the d90 and the d7100. the lens on the d90 is the 18 to 200 the d7100 has the 70 to 300 lens. MOST of my photos r action shots horses the 70 is too far away for what i do. I need a good fast lens for the d7100 for ring side and covered arena’s . If i find a hunt course the 70 300 will come in handy but for now. i want to be able to grab either camera at horse shows.
