Digital Camera Shipments Dropped by 80.5% in November 2023

In the morning I posted the article – Vivo X100 Pro Smartphones May Decrease the Sales of Mirrorless Cameras

and now we have this news, it’s not about any specific smartphone but now in general overall smartphone tech has been raised to the next level, now the difference becoming narrower with the advancement in smartphone tech and camera modules.

Let’s back to the news – Digital Camera Shipments in November 2023 – Digital camera shipments in November 2023 will significantly decrease by 80.5% compared to the same month last year

The total number of digital cameras shipped in October 2023 was 80.5% (76.9% in value) compared to the same month the previous year, which is significantly lower on both a unit and value basis. In 2023, shipments greatly exceeded the previous year’s numbers in April and May. From June until October, shipments remained at the same level as the previous year, but they plummeted in November.

Among camera shipments, lens-integrated models / compact cameras with built-in lenses accounted for 75.8% (91.5% in terms of value) compared to the same month the previous year. This is an improvement from October, but it continues to be low. Interchangeable lens cameras/mirrorless + DSLR cameras have been performing well so far, but in November they were at 81.9% compared to the same month the previous year (75.4% in terms of value), which was significantly lower than the previous year in both quantity and value.

Among interchangeable-lens types, we have DSLR as well as Mirrorless both stats, shipments of single-lens reflex cameras were 86,575 units (52.6% compared to the same month the previous year), and mirrorless cameras were 415,342 units (92.7% compared to the same month the previous year). Mirrorless cameras had the highest growth to date, but their growth stalled in November.

Its short DSLR shipment is all-time low and Mirrorless isn’t also performed well in November

The number of units shipped by region was 72.6% compared to the same month the previous year in Japan, 94.3% in China, 74.2% in Asia (excluding Japan and China), 66.2% in Europe, 96.0% in the Americas, and 75.1% in other regions. Sales in each region are down from the previous year, but the decline seems to be particularly large in Japan and Europe. The situation in November has changed significantly from October, when Japan was performing well.

That’s not good news for camera makers for sure.
