Shoot sharper for longer LEGRIA HF M32

The LEGRIA HF M32 features the same premium Canon technologies as the other models within the LEGRIA HF M series, including a highly intuitive Touch-screen LCD screen that offers greater user control over content. Perfect for users looking for exceptional video quality, the new camcorder allows users to capture even more HD video, offering enough capacity to shoot up to 24 hours¹ of footage². It’s also the first LEGRIA model to support SDXC memory cards, providing increased shooting time with up to two terabytes (TB) capacity.

Advanced features, advanced performance
The LEGRIA HF M32 features a 3.3 Megapixel Full HD CMOS sensor, 18x Advanced Zoom, Canon HD Video Lens and DIGIC DV III processing technology. Advanced Face Detection Technology identifies up to 35 faces in a frame, ensuring that friends and family remain in focus and well-exposed at all times – an individual face can even be manually selected to track someone moving around. Canon’s Instant AF technology provides the high-speed, pin-point auto-focus required for HD.

In addition to its Super Range Optical Image Stabilizer the HF M32 offers two additional stabilization modes for tricky shooting situations. The Dynamic Optical Image Stabilizer minimises camera shake when walking or moving, especially for wide angle shots. At maximum zoom, the new Powered Optical Image Stabilizer mode can be activated at the touch of a button, and greatly improves image stability when focusing on distant subjects.

Touch the screen, touch your subject
The LEGRIA HF M32 features a 2.7” gesture-based Touch-screen LCD, providing instant control and unrivalled ease of use. Camcorder set-up is effortless, with Touch Focus, Touch Exposure and Touch Tracking offering the ability to change focus, select exposure levels and track moving subjects simply by touching the screen. Sliding on-screen controls allow users to make fine adjustments to zoom, aperture and exposure more easily than ever before.

3D Flip View – search and play in second
The LCD screen offers even more benefits during playback. Movies can be viewed easily by flicking from one page to the next and touching the thumbnail to play, while the eye-catching 3D Flip View makes it simple to locate videos even within the largest of libraries. Grouping footage according to the day and time of day it was shot, 3D Flip View allows users to swipe left and right to find the day of shooting, then up and down to browse thumbnails by the time of day. Finding the right footage has never been easier.

Captivating movie montages made easy
The LEGRIA series is renowned for its ease-of-use, and the LEGRIA HF M32 is no exception. Thanks to integrated Smart Auto technology, users can record outstanding video no matter what the conditions – with intelligent Scene Detection Technology that automatically sets the camcorder up to match one of 31 shooting conditions.

Canon’s unique Video Snapshot offers one-touch recording to capture clips of two, four or eight seconds in duration. Clips can even be copied from previously-recorded footage, allowing users to create shorter scenes from long videos. They can then be assembled into a video ‘playlist’, which can be played back as a movie montage with background music. Music can either be added by uploading audio tracks to the camcorder memory or playing through the camcorder using an MP3 player. If they wish, users can then export the full playlist – including music – as a single Standard Definition movie to upload to the internet or burn to disc.

Seamless sharing
The LEGRIA HF M32 offers an easy way for users to share content online. An in-camcorder HD-to-SD conversion tool combines with an Easy Web Upload feature to allow clips to be transferred to YouTube™ with the minimum of effort. Supplied PIXELA ImageMixerTM software automatically locates content and allows users to log-in, upload and annotate their footage in one step. Individual user account details can also be stored for regular use.

Support for Eye-Fi connected functions means users can also upload their converted SD video clips direct from the camcorder to YouTube™ (or other supported websites) at a wireless hotspot, without the need for a computer³.

Dual flash memory
In addition to 64GB of built-in flash memory, a memory card slot is also provided – compatible with SDHC and next-generation SDXC cards. Ranging to a maximum capacity of 2TB, SDXC offers storage for hours of additional full HD video content. Relay Recording also complements Dual Flash Memory by automatically switching recording to the memory card when internal memory is full, so there’s no need to miss recording the end of an exciting event.

LEGRIA accessories
The new LEGRIA HF M32 is compatible with a range of Canon LEGRIA accessories, including lens adaptors, video lights and the new Canon WP-V2 underwater case, which enables users to shoot under water at depths of up to 40 metres. The integrated Mini Advanced Accessory Shoe also supports the new Canon SM-V1 5.1ch surround sound microphone.

CANON’S NEW XF305 AND XF300 PRO CAMCORDERS RECORD 1920 x 1080 4:2:2 VIDEO DIRECTLY TO COMPACT FLASH CARDS

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., April 7, 2010 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today announces the Canon XF305 and XF300 Professional Camcorders. Both new models employ an MPEG-2 4:2:2 50Mbps codec – Canon XF Codec – for capturing and recording native 1920 x 1080 video onto affordable, universally available Compact Flash (CF) cards. Uniting video, audio and metadata into a single file, the Canon XF305 and XF300 use an MXF (Material eXchange Format) File Wrapper, a widely supported open source format, to maximize compatibility with existing industry infrastructure and non-linear editing (NLE)systems. Priced under $8,000 per model, the Canon XF305 and XF300 are engineered for multiple production applications including broadcast news, documentary and independent filmmaking and event videography. Canon will be demonstrating a variety of professional applications for the Canon XF305 and XF300 at the Company’s booth# C4325 at the 2010 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The Canon XF305 and XF300 Professional Camcorders include a Genuine Canon 18x HD L-series lens providing documentary filmmakers and news camera operators with the focal-range versatility required in the field. Designed with input from professional users, each model includes three Canon developed and designed native 1920 x 1080 CMOS image sensors, and the new Canon XF Codec for extreme color detail required for accurate chroma-keying, color-grading and compositing for digital filmmaking. For finer transitions in tone and color, 4:2:2 color sampling offers twice the color resolution of HDV and other 4:2:0 formats. In addition, Canon’s XF305 model features industry- standard HD-SDI output, genlock, and SMPTE time code (in/out) terminals for multi-camera or 3-D productions.

“The creation of HD video content continues to grow across every market category,” stated Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. “We are proud to introduce the new Canon XF305 and XF300 Professional Camcorders, which provide extraordinary image quality, a generous array of features and seamless integration with file-based workflows, all at an attractive price. These camcorders provide the convenience, production cost and quality that the HD video market has been asking for.”

Further adding to the low total-cost-of-ownership of the Canon XF305 and XF300 Professional Camcorders is their use of CF cards. In addition to rugged, solid-state construction and the speed and ease of file transfer to computers, CF cards are cost effective and widely available, unlike proprietary memory systems. The new Canon XF305 and XF300 Professional Camcorders feature hot-swappable dual card slots and support UDMA CF cards for maximum performance.

To support the swift adoption of the Canon XF Codec, Canon has worked in cooperation with major editing and post-production software developers, including Adobe, Apple, Avid, and Grass Valley, to ensure compatibility with leading software programs widely used within the video production and broadcast industries.

Genuine Canon Optics with Image Stabilization
Leveraging the Company’s expertise as a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance optics, the Canon XF305 and XF300 Professional Camcorders feature a Genuine Canon 18x HD L-series lens with a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 29.3 – 527.4mm and a Full Manual Focus mode with mechanical “hard” end stops and distance markers for professional operability and repeatable manual focus. Canon utilized HI-UD (high-index, ultra low dispersion), UD and aspherical lens elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and provide a compact size and weight to the lens – while also delivering a resolution of approximately 1,000 TV lines. The lens also features a new SuperRange Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) system featuring Dynamic and Powered modes for optimal performance in the greatest variety of situations.

DIGIC DV III Image Processor
At the heart of Canon’s XF305 and XF300 Professional Camcorder models is Canon’s proprietary DIGIC DV III Image Processor, which ensures natural, lifelike colors and captures tonal gradations and shadow detail with remarkable accuracy. The DIGIC DV III Image Processor also powers Canon’s innovative Face Detection Technology, an autofocus option that can significantly reduce the effort required when camera operators work alone, such as in news applications.

To maximize the camcorders’ adaptability across various production environments, Canon equipped each model with the ability to record at multiple bit rates, resolutions and variable frame rates for slow and fast motion.

Mode Resolution Frame Rate
50Mbps (CBR) 4:2:2 1920 x1080 60i/30p/24p
1280 x 720 60p/30p/24p
35Mbps (VBR) 4:2:0 1920 x1080 60i/30p/24p
1280 x 720 60p/30p/24p
25Mbps (CBR) 4:2:0 1440 x1080 60i/30p/24p
CBR = Continuous Bit Rate
VBR = Variable Bit Rate

Additional professional features include variable-interval (for time-lapse) and frame-record for stop-motion animation, and a photo feature for frame-grabs.

Refined Ergonomics and Operation
The Canon XF305 and XF300 are designed to maximize shooting comfort and usability. The well-balanced design allows the operator to comfortably control the camcorder and easily maintain a steady shot while minimizing arm fatigue. Each camcorder also features a convenient, freely rotating 4.0-inch, 1.23-megapixel LCD monitor that can be positioned at either the right or left side of the camcorder body, allowing for easy viewing even in the most difficult shooting positions.

The LCD monitor also provides a display of the camcorders’ built-in waveform monitor and vectorscope to aid in achieving accurate exposure and color levels while shooting. Additionally, the LCD can show peaking, edge-monitor-focus and magnify the image, enabling users to confirm critical focus, an essential objective in all HD production.

The Canon XF305 and XF300 models also come equipped with a 0.52-inch, 1.55-megapixel color electronic viewfinder, providing ample resolution for critical focus and approximately 100 percent field-of-view coverage for accurate judgment of composition.

Audio Flexibility
The Canon XF305 and XF300 Professional Camcorders feature a built-in stereo microphone as well as dual XLR inputs for external audio sources. The new camcorders support 16-bit PCM audio at 48 kHz with automatic and manual audio level adjustment

Canon’s XF305 Professional Camcorder is scheduled to be available in late June for an estimated retail price of $7,999. Canon’s XF300 Professional Camcorder is scheduled to be available in late June for an estimated retail price of $6,799.

Spring’s Cyber-shot line-up is bursting with advanced optical technologies and fun-to-use features that help you capture, share and enjoy a lifetime of precious moments.

A total of twelve new digital cameras from Sony make it easier than ever to grab great-looking photos that really stand out from the crowd.

Cyber-shot HX5: Compact high-zoom with AVCHD and GPS
Inside its compact, purposefully styled new body, the Cyber-shot HX5 houses an incredible wealth of cutting-edge imaging innovation by Sony.

With twice the sensitivity of conventional sensors, the advanced Exmor R CMOS Sensor assures beautifully detailed, low-noise images, even when you’re shooting in low light. It’s a perfect complement for the premium G Lens by Sony with powerful 10x optical zoom. Covering a generous 25-250mm range (35mm equivalent) within a compact body, the high-zoom lens is ideal for any shooting situation from wide-angle landscapes and group shots to dramatic close-ups.

Left your camcorder behind? No problem: as well as brilliant 10.1 megapixel stills, the HX5 captures smooth, brilliantly detailed Full HD video clips for easy sharing. Just touch a button and start recording crisp 1920 x 1080i video footage using the highly efficient AVCHD format. After shooting, connect Cyber-shot to your BRAVIA™ TV and enjoy the show. Alternatively, slip the camera’s Memory Stick™ into the optional DVDirect MC6: you don’t need a PC to burn HD footage onto a DVD to enjoy on your PS3 or Blu-ray Disc™ player.

Optical SteadyShot with new Active Mode cuts camera-shake while you’re shooting handheld HD video. Providing up to 10x more shake correction than conventional cameras, Active Mode gives the clearest, steadiest handheld clips yet – even while you’re walking along.

In a world first, Intelligent Sweep Panorama enhances the unique feature first introduced on last year’s Cyber-shot HX1, TX1 and WX1 models. It’s now easier than ever to create seamless extra-wide angle views, even with moving objects. The camera detects if people or other objects are moving in your field of view as you sweep the camera, using powerful new algorithms to compensate for any mis-matching as images are automatically stitched together.

The HX5 is also the world’s first camera that integrates GPS and Compass functions to enhance your enjoyment of travel photography. Your location is displayed in real time on the large 7.6cm (3”) Clear Photo LCD screen as you’re shooting. When you’re back home, see where geotagged images and video clips were shot as on-line maps with supplied Picture Motion Browser PC software. As an extra refinement, a new Compass function shows which direction you were pointing when the picture was taken.

Making its Cyber-shot debut, HDR (High Dynamic Range) Backlight Correction produces natural, balanced results with high contrast and strongly backlit scenes – a tough test for any camera. The HX5 automatically shoots two frames of the same scene in quick succession, with exposure values optimised for highlights and lowlights respectively. Powerful algorithms then combine the two frames, producing a single, detail-packed HDR image with bright, evenly-exposed highlights and deep shadow detail.

A brand new Portrait shooting mode takes the guesswork out of grabbing beautifully-framed self portraits when you can’t see the LCD screen. Just hold the camera at arm’s length and press the shutter button. Using Face Detection, Cyber-shot detects when you’re framed correctly and fires the shutter automatically. There’s also a 2-person setting that ensures you and a friend are both in shot before firing the shutter.

Cyber-shot W380: leading design and performance
The popular Cyber-shot W Series expands with eight slim, colourful cameras packed with smart features to help everyone take better-looking pictures.

Available in luxurious choice of black, silver, gold and red colour options, the range-leading Cyber-shot W380 showcases an incredible array of imaging innovation at a compelling price.

Sweep Panorama makes it uniquely fun and easy to capture landscapes, city skylines, group portraits and more. Just press the shutter button and sweep the camera to take in the whole scene. Sweep Panorama automatically stitches together a burst of images in moments, creating a single ultra-wide image with a huge field of view up to 185 degrees.

Even slimmer and more compact than its predecessor, it boasts a bright f/2.4 Sony G lens with 5x optical zoom and 24mm wide angle to take full advantage of the CCD sensor’s 14.1 effective megapixel resolution. With an extra wide aperture, this high-quality lens opens up fresh creative possibilities, from smoothly-defocused portraits to atmospheric low-light shooting without flash.

Cyber-shot TX7: ultra-slim looks… and now with Full HD movies
When cutting-edge looks matter as much as fabulous images, the chic lines of the Cyber-shot TX7 stand out from the crowd. Exquisitely finished in a choice of three fashion colours, the slender body conceals a Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens. Unusually for such a thin camera, the 25mm wide angle capability gives you freedom to pack more into each scene – from dramatic landscapes to group scenes and atmospheric portraits.

The generously-sized wide 8.9cm (3.5”) touchscreen LCD and streamlined user interface makes operation beautifully simple. TruBlack screen technology minimises reflections and boosts contrast for a richly detailed view of your shots, even when you’re outdoors in bright daylight.

The Cyber-shot TX7 also features Intelligent Sweep Panorama and 1080i HD video shooting – all accessed in an instant from the intuitive touchscreen.

Share the memories in a moment with PMB Portable
All new Cyber-shot models feature in-built Picture Motion Browser (PMB) Portable software. Just connect the camera via USB to any Internet-ready PC: with just a few clicks it’s easy to upload pictures and video clips directly from Cyber-shot to your favourite image and video sharing sites on the web.

A slot for Memory Stick PRO Duo and SD/SDHC memory cards (sold separately) is offered on all new models to suit users’ personal shooting preferences.
There’s a full range of official accessories by Sony to help you get the best from your Cyber-shot. You’ll never miss another shooting opportunity with the latest generation of InfoLITHIUM™ rechargeable batteries for Cyber-shot. An enhanced new design ensures super-long shooting plus rapid charging in a slim, light, space-saving profile.
