Canon 80D rumors heating up-again and the camera is expected to arrive on Feb 2016 at the CP+ show 2016. Let’s us see.
In general Canon updates its XXD series camera in every two years.
Starting the journey with Canon 50D, the camera was announced on 26 Aug, 2008. It was limited to 15MP CMOS sensor, Max ISO range of 12800 and 9 point based AF system.
After 2 years, Canon 60D was announced on the same day, 26 Aug 2010. The camera was limited to 18 MP resolution and Max ISO range of 12800, the AF system remain limited to 9 point.
Canon 70D taken a bit more time and it was announced on 2, July 2013. The Canon 70D was a complete revolution in-terms of .Sensor technology, The Dual-Pixel CMOS AF sensor introduced in 70D elevated the AF performance of the camera to a next level. The 70D does a blazing fast AF while you are shooting still while using display or Recording a video. However, there was a slight improvement in the AF module of the camera… 70D was packed with a 19 point AF module (instead of 9 point as of 60D).
2016 has arrived and based on the past footprints of the Company Canon will going to announce Canon 70D successor this Year. CP+ Show in Feb is the best place to announce such products, otherwise Canon will select July or Aug month of this Year.

I am almost sure it will have bigger resolution. Otherwise it would be just some optical tuning, fine adjustment. Probably they will let out the mirror or some bigger 🙂
A person I know owns the Canon 60D. No longer sold brand new. I saw images of this camera taken with a macro lens. Good. This camera had 18 megapixels when released in 2010. Considered more than sufficient at that time. Now, 6 years later, they only raised this new Canon 80D to 20.2 megapixels. Canon can’t make a 24 megapixels DSLR, in 2016?
Depend upon Canon what type of sensor they want to use in the upcoming Canon 80D camera, they already have the two
1. 24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor, Hybrid CMOS AF III
2. 20.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor, Dual pixel CMOS AF Sensor
