It would be nice if they started making more 1/1.7″ cameras like the Casio EX100. Compact cameras are all typically 1/2.3″, which isn’t really an enticement for those with ‘good’ cameras on their phones. Of course, a camera phone will never be brilliant, but if people buy a compact camera they want it to be much better. At the moment they seem to be making up for this with superzoom lenses etc, but the market is getting a little saturated with these.
So, you either go Superzoom or to something like the Sony RX1R etc, which although is brilliant doesn’t really have zoom. I realise that the larger the sensor the more difficult zoom becomes in a compact package, but the Casio EX100 does this well. I think it would be beneficial to have more premium compact cameras like the EX100 looking forward, especially since camera phones have taken over much of the role of standard compact cameras.
