According to the recent data from BCN Ranking, the sales of interchangeable lenses in Japan have seen a significant rebound in 2022, with a YoY ( year-on-year) increase in unit sales of 106.9% and a sales amount increase of 122.1% (due to Mirrorless to DSLR transition phase People are now intended to invest more in lenses then in DSLR era). DSLR lenses, on the other hand, continue to decline with a market share of 77.1% in 2022. In contrast, mirrorless lenses saw double-digit growth of 121.4% in 2022.
Sony emerged as the market leader in 2022, with a market share of 16.4%, surpassing Canon, which held the top spot for 13 consecutive years. Canon now holds second place with a market share of 15.9%. Lens manufacturers Sigma and Tamron also showed an upward trend in 2022, with Sigma taking third place with 14.5% and Tamron taking fourth place with 14.3%. Both Sigma and Tamron have seen a YoY increase in sales of 126.3% and 136.2% respectively.
Sony has almost half of the Mirrorless Market Lens share.
But as You know Sigma and Tamron were making a majority of lenses for Sony E-Mount in 2022. If we combine the market share of Tamron, Sigma, and Sony, the total market share would be 14.3% + 14.5% + 16.4% = 45.2%. And I am not including Zeiss, viltrox and samyang in the list.
Canon needs to Open its RF Mount if they want to regain market share.
Do, you think the same? let me know in the comment … if Canon opens its RF Mount then people will have more lens options to select from and many new photographers and content creators, those who are avoiding Canon cameras due to lack of proper APS-C Lenses or FF Lenses, can connect easily again with the brand if they wish to.

They need to stop price gouging on RF lenses, especially outside of USA. Prices in Australia are criminal, 30-40% dearer than EF lenses. 100-500L cost $4900 2x that of the Sony 200-600. Most of the Canon holy trinity costs $4K+, 70-200 f/2.8, $4.2K, 135 f/1.8 $3.3K, 3x the cost of the EF 135 f/2L. Canon can get stuffed. Abandoned thme totally after 25 years.
