The camera features almost same sensor size and ISO range. But the tech both company using different tech. Canon uses DAPF system for AF whereas the Fuji uses the X-Trans sensor.

Fuji X-H1 look superior when

  1. Fuji offers more dense 325 AF points compared to Canon 80D. So, with Fuji you get more screen under coverage.
  2. Built in 5 axis IS, so you get overall 5.5 stops of Image stabilization. No built in IS inside the Canon 80D camera.
  3. Faster continuous shooting speed. The Fuji offers 14fps continuous shooting speed, whereas the Canon 80D remains limited to 7 FPS.

Canon 80D features

  • Vain-angle display screen is really helpful when creating selfie / videos and it gives you more compositional freedom. Which is missing inside the X-H1 camera.
  • 3X more batter life which is highly appreciable

Image quality : Which one is better ? Fuji X-H1 or Canon 80D

As we all know that Fuji features same sensor as of Fuji X-T2 camera. So, take a look at the comparison between the X-T2 and Canon 80D.

Canon 80D vs X-T2 camera

As we can look at the Fuji X-T2 X trans III sensor gives you better image quality compared to Canon 80D.

Price difference 1099 vs 1899

Canon 80D + Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 Lens  = Fuji X-H1 Body only

The Fuji camera cost you approx $900 more compared to Canon 80D. Which is a very big difference between the two.

Verdict: Fuji is asking more price but they are also giving you bit better image quality, built in IS as well as DCI 4K with faster image processing.

Interesting, one battery in the Canon gives the same amount of shots as the Fuji equipped with it’s battery grip = 3 batteries.
Each Canon AF point is superior to the Fujifilm AF points because it’s a “cross” type sensor, whereas the Fujifilm AF points are single line sensors, only sensitive to structures in horizontal direction.
For video, the Fujifilm X-H1 is by far better, because you can use the viewfinder when recording. The optical finder of the Canon is useless.
If you prefer the screen for video, Canon has the edge because of it’s vari-angle LCD. But you should not forget the Fujifilm screen can be tilted in two axis.

I think the 80D’s data may be mixed up.

I think these data are correct:
    – No Contrast detect,
    – ISO max 16000, expandable by software to 25600 max.
    – In Live View there is approx. 19 000 000 (19 millions) Focusing Poins (DPAF is about 80% of pixels).

It is clear that the 14f / s of the FUYI, sets the bar very high in Canon, when developing the shutter of the future APS-C PRO. I can not imagine the 7D3 doing 12f/s.

Esta claro que las 14f/s de la FUYI, pone el listón muy alto en Canon, a la hora de desarrollar el obturador de la futura APS-C PRO. No me imagino la 7D3 haciendo 12f/s.

Always have to laugh when I see high ISO comparisons to Fuji, which effectively cheats on it’s ISO. If you want to compare 25600 on the Canon you have to use ISO 40000 on the Fuji since it’s ISO is under-rated by 2/3rd stop. Fuji does not defy physics and do not have the cleanest sensors. They are very good for sure, but they are not that good. Just look at how much darker the Canon exposure is compared to 80D. Yet dpreview keeps letting Fuji get away with this.

Also why are we comparing a mid entry APS-C Canon to a flagship Fuji.

Please keep in mind that fuji cheats on the ISO measurement. At same marked ISO, and same aperture, fujifilm needs double the shutter time to achieve same brightness as nikon or canon.

How you can say Fuji cheats in ISO measurement ?

  • Odin

How do we know Fuji cheats, because it’s a widely known issue. Cheating is maybe the wrong word, but they over-rate their ISO. It is easily demonstrated it has about 2/3rd stop longer exposure at the same ISO as other cameras. So 25600 on Fuji is like ISO 16000 on Canon for example. Just look at the two images, the Canon is much darker for the same exposure.

    Thanks for the insights

We will sure look at this issue and highlight it also.
