Nikon FTZ adapter will change the focal length of the Lens ?

Take A look at the set of Five Question we have received  today,

Q1 .Maybe you can answer a question for me and other readers about the new Nikon Z6.
I read that you can use a adapter to use older Nikon lens. It looks to me that the adapter is not as close to the sensor as it should be.
Does that mean the Lens used with the adapter will change the focal length of the Lens ?

Q2. Does putting the Big FTZ adpater will add a extra crop factor ?

Q3. Hi TNC, Can I use my Nikon Mirrorless Lenses to Nikon DSLR ?

Q4. Nikon FTZ Mount adapter creates any Focal Length issues with DSLR lenses ? Kindly let me know if Nikon DSLR Lenses suffer from any crop factor when used with Nikon Z6 Mirrorless camera.

No, Nikon FTZ adapter will not change the focal length of the Fullframe DSLR Lens

The answer is very simple, You don’t have to face any crop issue while using Nikon DSLR lenses in Nikon Z6 or Z7 Mirrorless camera.

The DSLR have Mirror inside (the flip-up Mirror) for reflecting a portion of light to Viewfinder and some to the Phase AF sensor sitting inside the Main sensor, so the flange distance (distance from sensor to lens) is large in DSLR camera. Now in Mirrorless the flange distance is small due to the absence of Mirror. So the distance of Lens from main sensor is small compared to DSLR. Hence, to use the DSLR lenses in Mirrorless we have to recreate the same distance with the help of an adapter,  this doesn’t affect focal length of the lens.
That’s why you can use your Nikon FX / Fullframe DSLR Lenses to Nikon FZ Mirrorless camera with an adapter, but in any case you cannot use the Mirrorless lenses to DSLR.

Nikon Working on 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 APS-C Mirrorless Lens with Silent AF

The latest patent published this year shows up a 18-135mm Lens with F3.5-5.6 aperture. The lens is designed and developed for APS-C sensor based Mirrorless camera. One of the important feature described in the patent is Lens features silent and Fast AF motor inside, to make it more compatible with Video oriented Mirrorless camera.

To provide a variable power optical system in which a focusing lens group is made more compact and lighter, an optical device and a manufacturing method for the zoom optical system.SOLUTION: A variable power optical system comprises, in order from an object side, a first lens group G1 having positive refractive power, a second lens group G2 having negative refractive power, a third lens group G3 having negative refractive power, a fourth lens group G4 having positive refractive power, a fifth lens group G5 having negative refractive power, and a sixth lens group G6 having positive refractive power, and is configured such that distances between respective lens groups change when varying power from a wide-angle end state to a telephoto end state, the third lens group G3 moves in an optical axis direction when focusing from an infinity object to a short distance object, and at least a part of the fifth lens group G5 moves so as to have a directional component orthogonal to the optical axis. The variable optical system satisfies a following expression: 0.80<f5/f3<1.30, where f3 represents a focal length of the third lens group G3, and f5 represents a focal length of the fifth lens group

Nikon D3500 Announcement in Next Few Months

TNC EXCLUSIVE Few weeks ago we got hints that Nikon is preparing to announce the Nikon D3500 DSLR camera. Now we are getting confirmations from trusted Japanese sources that Nikon N1718 is the most eligible camera to be called Nikon next entry level DSLR camera, the Nikon D3500.

Early information about Nikon D3500

  • The Nikon N1718 carries same Bluetooth part as of Nikon D3400
  • No Built-in WiFi [Models including Nikon D5600 and above have it]

Both these facts point to only one model, the successor of Nikon D3400 camera. We are not sure the model name yet, Nikon may put the model name Nikon D3600 to match with Nikon D5600 and others upcoming model. However, one thing is very clear that Nikon is set to announce next entry level DSLR in next few months. Possibly before the September 2018.

Nikon Patent 20mm F2.0 Lens for Curve Sensor

Nikon is working on curved sensor camera and this is not new, we have published a patent back in 2016 that was showing a curved image sensor patent by Nikon. In a recent patent document revealed by patent Hunter blog we can clearly see that Nikon is working on a 20mm full frame lens made for curved sensor camera by having a aperture of 2.0.

Nikon Registered N1711 Digital Camera

Nikon Registered a new digital camera at wireless certification agency. The camera model code name is N1711, now we have a total of three different Nikon camera models registered at Wireless certification agencies. Take a look at the list below

N1711 is a new model added to our list of upcoming cameras. We also have Nikon N1710 model in our list, the N1710 name was first spotted on Feb of 2018. Both models starting from N17XX (N1710 and N1711) are rumored to be Nikon mirrorless cameras expected to arrive on or before the Photokina event 2018.

You can see the Sigma ART Lens features AF and high-grade optics with AF, last two lenses on the list doesn’t have Auto Focus support. The upcoming 14mm F2.8 Lens will feature Auto Focus Support, but the cost of the lens isn’t known yet.
