Canon G7X Mark III Uses New 20 MP BSI CMOS Sensor

Canon G7X Mark III camera uses new sensor and new image processor, however the lens of the cameras remains same as of its predecessor.

New Sensor For Better Low Light Performance

Confirmation: The upcoming Canon G7X Mark III camera uses new 20 MP BSI CMOS sensor. The previous generation of Canon G7X series camera was using 20 MP CMOS sensor. With the introduction of BSI (backside illumination)  tech. the sensor will become more light sensitive and hence, you will get more more cleaner low-light images compared to Canon G7X Mark II camera.

Introduction of Digic 8 Image Processor alongside with New Sensor

The DIGIC 8 Image Processor powers the PowerShot G7 X Mark III camera to produce high image quality and fast operation, even in low light. The camera features a wide ISO range for still images and videos, Digic 8 Image processor allows you to capture RAW file @ 30FPS, you can record high quality 4K videos and Full HD Videos at 120 FPS.

    After just seeing the leaked images and specs of the new G5X II, i am in shock. I hope that Canon didn’t make that huge mistake by putting a pop up EVF on the G7X III and called it G5X mark II….If that is the case, this means that neither of these new Canon iteration will sell. We will all go with a Sony Mark VI…or wait for the Mark. VII

    Why do you present the BSI sensor as something new?? According to the information in the eshops already Mark 2 had it. Also Digic 8 is not brand new. Mark 3 with these specs would be a “bomb” two, three years ago. Now it’s just “not standing too far behind the times”.

    @Ladek

    Canon G7X Mk II uses CMOS sensor not BSI CMOS sensor.

    Since my previous reply is still “awaiting moderation”, one more try without the links:

    DPreview: “The PowerShot G7 X Mark II is an update to the original G7X. The camera’s 20.2MP 1 inch BSI-CMOS sensor is paired with Canon’s latest DIGIC 7 image processor”

    Cameradecision: “First introduced in February 2016 , Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II is a 20.0MP Large Sensor Compact camera with a 1″ (13.2 x 8.8 mm ) sized BSI-CMOS sensor.”

    Apotelyt: “The camera is build around a BSI-CMOS (Backside Illuminated Complementary Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor) sensor.”

    And many others. So where is the truth? Yes, many sites do not say it, but saying just “1 inch CMOS sensor” does not necessarily mean it´s not BSI. BSI technology is already quite old and it´s very well believable it was used already in mark 1, as some sources say.
